Last years show - the largest EVER! Celebrating the 400th anniversary of Guy Fawkes
A big thank you to everyone who chanced the weather and came to support the annual charity bonfire & fireworks display this year. Despite the forecast, the weather was relatively dry which encouraged a crowd of just over 2,500 people to watch the 400th anniversary calibrations.
This year saw the first ‘ Guy Building ’ competition on the night with participants from Hatch Beauchamp Primary School . Guy Fawkes had a tough time trying to pick the winners from some fantastic ‘Guys’ displayed on the night!
By all accounts, the one-way system through the village seemed to work well, with traffic returning to normal relatively quickly. Thank you to all the village residents!
The fireworks this year were outstanding! The budget was increased dramatically to really ‘push the boat out’, resulting in 20 mins of aerial action. The display was unfortunately delayed due to some final safety checks that HAD to be undertaken. This was not helped by the fact that the strong wind on the night was blowing the smoke from the bonfire across the firing site.
Safety is a priority at any firework display and Hatch is no exception. “There is simply no way we would let the display go ahead before we are satisfied that all safety measures have been met!” (Simon – Display Supervisor). The firework team apologise for the delay and will do their very best to make sure the display is not delayed for that length of time in future years.
A big thank you to all our volunteers, supporters and local companies who help not only on the night but months in advance! Thanks in part to a generous one-off donation; we were delighted that the monies available for distribution to the charities nominated exceeded £5000.
Plans have beein the pipeline for some time for the 2006 show with the idea of moving sites as a possibility to grow into one of the largest, most spectacular displays in the south west!
Thank you all very much…see you in November!
